Wii for $200?

I see this is old news. Is it still valid at all? I know they said it would be $250, but is there a possibility of that changing? $200 is reasonable (though it really should come with two controllers) but $250 is a bit much IMO.

I ran a quick search and didn't see a post about this.

Discuss.

You mean the search didn't bring up the dozens of Wii threads?

No, it is not valid; it IS old news. It will be $249.99.

It's announced, yes, I know. But is there any change of it being changed? How is it that they can sell it for so much less in Japan than here?

WTF?

You know, it is probably because they see people are so stupid to consider paying $600 for a PS3, this still looks like nothing.

Thanks Sony.

It can be changed, but they won't. It is set at $249.99 for the US and will launch at $249.99.

If it's any cheaper in Japan, it's because it is made there (I think).

Engadget or something posted the compusa merchandise racks in warehouses and stuff was marked $249.99 on the shelving, so it ain't gonna change

actually i beleive they said the reason it is cheaper in Japan was the exchange rate or something like that. It was some stupid reason.

aren't they made in japan? probably has something to do with shipping them to the US also.

Stinks too... I think it loses a lot of appeal at the $250 price compared to the $199 price.

works for me, still cheaper than the PS2 when it debuted in 2000 or 2001 or something

I don't think consoles have been made in Japan since SNES days. They are made in China and such.

$250 gets you the console, wii sports (game), cables, ac adapter, and wii remote+nunchuck.

$300 gets you all of the above + zelda twilight princess.

But you'll still need to buy component cables too, or do they come with it?

it probably won't come with component cables.

nintendo said that while the Wii will be HDTV compatible, it's really meant to work on standard 4:3 TV's.

Nah. There are enough Playstation fans for them to still come out on top. But it won't be by the same huge margin as the current generation. I see all 3 consoles selling between 45-55 million each.

It's cheaper in Japan because Wii sports is not included. Technically the Wii is $200 in the US, but it is bundled with a game, therefore $250 for the package.

I'll probably wait until after Christmas, hopefully Nintendo will sell the console itself for $200. If not I'll just pick one up used. The game I'm mostly looking forward to (smash bros brawl) isn't coming out until 07 anyways.
