Wii drops to $150 May 15, gains Mario Kart but loses Sports

Hmmm...I really shouldn't, but I'd consider getting one at that price. Do I really want to be that guy that has ALL 3 consoles AND a PC though?

If you get it, only get it for local multiplayer gaming, and only if you regularly have guests over who aren't good at more traditional games that require some level of skill.

If you have friends or family over and you want to play games, anyone can play Wii games. Call of Duty, not so much.

There are some situations where I wish I had a Wii. Single player games suck on it though.

waves - i'm one of those guys.,dont do it. the wii will be unused after 2 weeks

but...but...but... it's only $150!

See, deep in my heart I know you're right. I barely have time for the other consoles as it is. And there's still only 5 or so Wii games I want to play.

Do you have a Kinect? If not, I'd rather have it than a Wii. Maybe if they dropped the Wii to $129, but I prefer my Kinect over a friends Wii.

Everybody I know who has it and doesn't have kids says the same thing. I was originally going to get one but I'm glad I got the PS3 instead. Well, prior to the shenanigans of the past two weeks anyway. :\

The Wii isn't a bad console, it just doesn't target us. It's for kids and (very) casual gamers. If it had BD or even basic DVD playback, it would be easier to justify. As is, I wouldn't get one.

I just got a PS3 but until I get God of War 3 or the GoW/Ico+SotC collection I can't find anything to do with it since I can't get into Demon Souls. 360 is even worse as I can't think of anything to play on it that I couldn't just get on the PC. I'm actually looking forward to a Wii so I can play Brawl and Twilight Princess and replay some of my GCN games 😛

As we go on it's going to get harder and harder to really differentiate between the consoles, they're quickly approaching the 'good enough' state that PCs are experiencing. What's going to set them apart really is games, and Nintendo undoubtedly has one of the strongest exclusive catalog's around. I think as long as they can put out a system with enough hardware and a suitable controller/online service to placate the big studios and the so-called "hardcore" gamers they'll be in a good position for success.

I'm that guy as well. I still play my Wii sometimes, for Tiger Woods. I'd rather have a Wii than Kinect, personally.

it's still usable when you have a few drunk people over. drunk mario kart is awesome! you can't use any game involving flicking the controller around though. you're liable to lose the TV.

also might want to factor in getting 3 more controllers + nunchucks + motion plus sensors

It can get pricey for something that will become a dustbin. If you live with 3 roommates though it's perfect.

you want to play brawl, but don't want to play mvc3, ssf4, tekken 6, or mortal kombat on ps3?

wtf

I would bet they'll bundle Sports with a controller for an extra $10.

This means the Wii will be on sale for $99 sometimes, it's defintely worth that to play the Nintendo games.

I have all 3 and rarely use any of them. Unless I count using the PS3 for Blu-Rays.

Consoles are just wretched compared to the quality of gaming on a PC.

I actually use the Wii the most because of games like Mario Galaxy. The PS3 and 360 are not worth playing, except for games that are very good and not available on the PC, of which there are few.

This.

I've been using the PC as multiplayer only recently, the Wii has me gripped with lengthy single player experiences (especially with Portal2 being like 5 hours long..). Anyone who hasn't played the Galaxies or Metroid Prime series, Kirby Epic Yarn, Twilight Princess, New SuperMarioBros, etc, should pick up a Wii and give them a try. If you decide it's really not for you, you can always sell it and recoup your losses.

That being said, $149.99 is good, but it should be $100 by now. Don't include Mario Kart and allow the consumer to choose what game to buy.

Well, I found out that with a bluetooth dongle you can use a Wiimote on your PC quite well. Long story short... I won't be needing a wii anymore :awe:

In semi-related matters, I didn't know that they made the new wiimotes with the wii motion plus stuff built in. I expected to need that separate so that's nice.

Hrmm to buy a Wii @ $150 or just get a used Gamecube...

I really want to play my copy of Eternal Darkness again.

There's also the option of getting a used Wii for $100 or less. Though if you do go the Wii route you'll also need to a GameCube controller and memory card. A used GameCube should at least come with a controller.

Other than being smaller there's only one advatange to using a Wii as a GameCube that I can think of. A Wii component cable is much cheaper and easier to find than a GameCube component cable (which only works on older units anyways.)

I wanted to do this very badly but I could never get around to finding a dongle that worked or dealing with all the stacks and what not. Has the process been streamlined as of now?

Replaying old FPS games with wii-mote = drool. I've been wanting to give HL/HL2 another spin from the comfort of my couch.

Must have, because I just popped in any old bluetooth adapter and used the default drivers Win 7 loaded for me and it's working.

Due to robbery this will make Wii #4 for us. Oh well, at least they waited until April to rob us I guess...lol
