Wii and surround sound

There is an option in the Wii setup to turn on surround sound but all of the cables I have for my Wii (component/composite) only have stereo out.

Can a Dolby PL2 signal be sent over a composite stereo connection?

Thanks Yoyo... So from what I understand, the Dolby Prologic II signal coming out of the Wii over stereo RCA outputs can be used by my receiver to simulate 5.1 (assuming I have a Dolby PL2 capable receiver)?

Yeah, it will not be as good as Dolby Digital encoding and such, but it will get the job done.

hmm i have a question, my receiver automatically switches to whatever type of signal it's getting, so if it's getting a Dolby Digital signal it will automatically decode it or stereo it will automatically decode it but when i play Wii it just stays in stereo. does that mean im not getting Dolby Pro-Logic 2 through my system or do i have to manually set it to DPL2 to have it decode it?

Try setting it to PLII

Thats the way you do send a PL2 signal, its an analog thing. From having it on Gamecube - its good. Not quite as distinct as DD, but still good.

I found it a bit strange that Nintendo didn't include Dolby Digital support for the Wii, but as others have said, PLII gets the job done, and the Wii is still an awful lot of fun.
