Wii definitely has good value IMO. Like Chocolate Pi mentioned, Wii comes with WiFi out of the box, on Xbox you have to buy a $100 adapter (WTF?). Wii also comes with a game, so the console is basically $200. I have a hunch that after Xmas Nintendo will start selling the Wii by itself without Wii Sports, like they are doing in Japan at launch. If so, expect a price of $200, or maybe they'll even go ahead and drop the price already (~$150?), although I wouldn't count on the latter.

Controller prices kind of disappointed me ($60 for Wiimote + nunchuck), however, the controller is far more complex than traditional controllers which are offered by the competition for about the same price, so I don't think a person could really accuse Nintendo of price gouging; they are probably selling them about as cheap as possible.

No you don't, I use a Linksys I got used for $50. Still not as good as including it like Wii though, but for a cheap out, you can use CAT5/6 and just run it under the carpet or through the attic.

BTW, what is Wii using? If it isn't planned to stream video, then will it be the older 802.11b standard? Because that would explain it being included, as I've seen b game adapters from $15 to free after MIR.

So you can use 3rd party USB WiFi adapters? I didn't realize that. Still would be nice if it were built in though.

Wii uses 802.11g standard. Only reason b adapters are so cheap is because it's old tech and demand is low; most people want the faster 54mbps g wireless. I really doubt g wireless tech is significantly (or any) more expensive on the manufacturing side than b.

You can always use a third party wireless bridge or you can do like I will and use a linksys router as a wireless client.

Since we're playing the correct game, I thought I'd correct you both in that you're thinking Anti-Aliasing. Anisotropic Filtering is the correction of distant textures in that textures are square in nature, but as points get further away from your point of origin ( player position or camera position ), the place the texture is rendered onto becomes more triangular (like how train tracks look like they converge, same concept).

Anti-Aliasing, on the other hand, helps to correct the jagged edges created by lines that aren't parallel.

EDIT: Parallel referring to being a perfectly horizontal or perfectly vertical line. Parallel to the sides of the screen :).

I think my TV is only 480i. Is it going to look crappy??? It's a Sanyo 27" Flat Screen SDTV (Model #: HT27546).

I wouldn't say the Wii's controllers are a little thing... they will change gameplay drasticaly and for the better...

Wii has the internet...
Wii can download old school games...

I could go on and on;)

no josh, the wii will look just fine on your 480i tv. But depending on what input connectors it has, it will look worse if you use something like composite or coax. If your tv supports component or S-video, be sure to get those cables when you get the Wii.

If you every played a DC countless hours as I did on a Computer monitor using a VGA out, you'll know that it looked to DIE for because it was so crystal clear and sharp...
except that it was jaggy as HE|||||||| (and it SORELY needed Antriscopic filtering...go look at the the cutscenes in sonic where you saw image banding on an airplane runway that was absolutely horrid )

DC did not have anti-aliasing. But the fact of the matter is, with DC the image quality was so clear that you could see jaggies. With a lot of other systems like PS2, the clarity is so bad that jaggies are partly blurred into the image even though they're present.

What I found amazing about DC was how clear the textures looked. I don't know if it had anisotropic filtering, but it sure seemed like it. The colors were brilliant. No washed out, faded colors like on PS2. I mean, PS2 and all the other systems are great and all and in fact I have one despite its flaws, but the output from my dreamcast was just amazing in comparison.

Back to Wii, do gaming consoles really have the processing capability to put out a 1080p image, or do they just upscale?

Eh, no biggie for me. My HDTV can only do 480p and 1080i, but not 720p :p
I'm in it for the gameplay, not the resolution cranking.
