Wifi Router prevents PC - iPad connection

I got a new wifi router, which seems to prevent me connecting via SSH from my PC to iPad. The iPad and PC connect fine to the internet, but when I use WinSCP to connect I get "permission denied" (of coarse I checked the IP addresses and they are correct). Now, I connected back the old router and it works fine, so I reckon it must be some configuration setting on the new router that's blocking local connections.
Anyone have any ideas?

It would help to know the model of the router(s). Are you trying to use a static IP?

it's a mitrastar hgw-250igw-r2.

Maybe you have an open port on the old router that needs to be manually opened on the new one for this to work.

Make sure that "wireless client isolation" is OFF, if there is an option for that.

Yes, that option is switched off, but still it doesn't work
