I have a TP-Link N750 wireless router for just about a year now. Within the past 2 months, the 2.4Ghz band has gotten super slow. The 5Ghz band is fast, and I get full speeds, however, the range is very limited. I get 50-60Mbps from my cable provider. The specs of the router says that the 2.4Ghz band max out at 300Mbps, and the 5Ghz at 450Mbps. Theoretically, I should be able to get full speed out of the 2.4 Ghz band. I used to get full speed out of it, where I would not notice a speed difference. Now a days, I have to tap my fingers waiting for web pages to load.
My house is only 950 sq.ft, and the 5Ghz band doesnt go to my living room. The problem annoys me most in regard to my cell phone. I have an iphone 6. The phone always connects to the 2.4Ghz band as soon as I come home. If I start opening a web page, I immediately notice that its being super slow, and I have to manually switch to the 5Ghz band. The problem is that if I want to a different part of the house where the 5Ghz does not pick up, it will revert back to the 2.4Ghz band.
What do you guys think could be wrong? Is it just being defective?
