If I had only 1 machine and it was in the same room, I would also consider nics. As it is, I believe WiFi will meet our needs. The CISCO unit from COX has 4 LAN ports so this should also meet the need for a phone in the living room. With only this modem I would have no need for a Router. My Motorola only has 1 Lan port so I needed the router for extra connections.

I assume the pci wireless nic connects somehow to the motherboard??

The CISCO DPC3825 is Compliant with DOCSIS 3.0 and 802.11n Wireless Access Point.
Wireless Protected Setup (WPS), including a push button switch to activate WPS
for simplified and secure wireless setup
Advanced firewall technology deters hackers and protects the home network from unauthorized access

I had my current one built. I did a lot of digging, but not on every subject. Probably enough to ask almost the right questions. This is a new area and I was led to my conclusion by the bracket on the card.

Looked up the card and I probably could hook one up, but my wife's HP computer would be another problem I am sure.

Forget the Cisco DPC3825. It was a come on. You had to have certain services and hardware rental to qualify. Back to the TP-LINK devices.
I will see what I can find on Youtube.
 
The USB devices I recommend is $25 each now. I have one TP-Link USB adapter for an older PC and have no latency issues at all playing retro games on the network. Be sure to use the extension cord that come with it to get away from pc as interference is bad for both pcie and USB.
