WiFi range - N routers better for G signal?

So I'm looking for some information on how to get the furthest range on my wireless router that I can. I think I read that N routers have a greater range but I'm only using G cards. If I get an N router, does the range boost only apply when using the N signal or would the extra range work for G cards as well?

Or is it really not that significant? I have a couple G routers I can make use of but would have to buy an N router if I'd get a decent addition to the range.

Thanks.

I just bought a dual-band router (e4200), and the range actually seems slightly worse than what I used to get with my old WRT54g.

All things being equal, the MIMO technology should give slightly better range. Don't expect miracles and it all depends on the environment, nothing is guaranteed with wireless.

Using 5GHz it will almost always be....on 2.4GHz it could be due to no external antennas.
