I have the Dell true mobile wireless lan card on my dell inspiron 8200 the card is a orinco cold card just stickered by dell.

Anyways i have a wireless dlink router/access point with 4 port cat5 switch.

the thing is everything works find on it but when im on my laptop with the wireless card after like 20 minutes the card likes to dissconnect and reconnect on a regular basis and its pissing me off. What can I do about this? Whats going on here?

Thanks in ahead!

Most of the time that kind of problem sounds like an update is needed for the dlink. See if there is a firmware update for the dlink and the Dell true mobile.

What is your signal strength? Are you far away from the access point? Are there any 2.4ghz devices (Microwave, 2.4ghz phones, x10 junk...) that would cause the disruption, even negihboor's devices may cause this?

Also it could be the fault of the TrueMobile card one friend's Truemobile will overheat and drop in and out.

my sister is the only one with a 2.4ghz phone and she doesnt use it at all when this happens im guessing neighbors or a faulty card

How can i make sure i have a good card?

Well how far away are you from the AP? Dug suggested it could still be the AP. Do you have a friend who has a WiFi card you could borrow to test? Still can't say with that information

well im getting a different card soon the 3 com one....

I do have a low signal and a good signal at some times but gee i was about 2 feet from the access point the other day and it still did that....

I have no idea wats wrong I am assuming the card but i will have to wait and see.

Honestly not worth the price the Linksys WiFi card has 95% of the same components inside of them. I wouldn't pay for the name.

So its probbably not an issue of signal strength and such, but either Router/AP or Card. If you try a diffrent card and it does it then its the AP otherwise it is the card.

Also perhaps could be a driver issue.

I have the exact same problem with my inspiron 8200 and the dell mobile wireless along with my Linksys WAP11 Access point.

There is some setting that you need to change but I can't figure out which one.

I remember when I was researching my laptop I was on the dell talk forums and someone mentioned a setting fix for this because a few people were having the same issue.

But moron me didn't write it down or save the page and now I can't remember which setting it is.

I would definitley like help with this as well.

oh im not buying the 3com one I have a deal here locally with a friend that im going to trade my extra cd's and stuff for his 3com wireless lan card.

BTW does anyone know how long I have to return the card to dell if it is faulty?

Dunno I just have 3 refurb TrueMobiles from a overstock.com deal a while back, and I'm not dellusional to think I actually have a warranty.

As far settings it might be possible, but my TrueMobile is rock solid stable, as I have a superslim laptop so it puts off very little heat. So I don't know. I may be wrong but my friend's laptop that his truemobile freezes if friggin hot and the card extremely hot if you take it out after a while and I'm just guessing.

I think its your power management settings kicking in. Somewhere you have to set it so that it never turns off that device.

I have a Dell X200 with a TrueMobile wireless mini-PCI card and am having the same trouble. I have a Lynksys wireless DSL router. I get disconnects every once and a while... sometimes every 5-10 minutes, other times I can go all day. I have a 2.4GHz phone, but I turned off the phone (removed battery and unplugged wall unit) and had the same problems. I called Dell about this, and the guy just said that all brands don't necessarily play well together, even if all are Wi-Fi compatible.

Because I like not having a wireless antenna stick out of my notebook, I am thinking of trying to sell the Lynksys router and buy a Dell TrueMobile wireless router for $129. Does anybody have one of these? I am just worried it won't have frequent firmware updates, and won't have extensive features (I need PPPoE emulation and port forwarding).

dont buy a 3com just because u think its better. most of the wi-fi companies use the same components, so basically ull just be spending extra money because its stamped with 3com vs. linksys.
since there all compliante with 802.11b standards, youll could have the same problem with the other card.
my advice: make sure u have the latest version of firmware for both ur NIC and the access point.
