WiFi problem

First my laptop works when hooked up by cable.

When I try to us WiFi I have a problem.

Turn it on and it find the modem and show the green fan. Says that I have a connection.

But, when I try to use the internet I get a "server not found" error message. This is both at home and when in other location. It happens with any browser and on an web site.

Should say the laptop is 10 years old.

Any ideas as to what is wrong?
