i have a wirelessG router but my computer is on the other side of the house and the signal is either very low or there is none at all. i'm wondering would it be ok to just run a cable from the router to my computer? it's probably going to need to be at least 50 ft. so i guess i'm wondering if i'll have any problems if the cable is that long.

No problems at all, just try to not kink the cable. If properly installed category cabling is good to 100 meters.

You shouldn't. I have a Xbox 360 hooked up 50ft away because I don't want to have to deal with the lag issues by using wireless. No problems here. Just really slow broadband connection.

yeah, should be good.
Oh man, today i was at a marina to hookup some IP security cams, and they were like we ran the cat 5, and i was like, how far, they were like, eh about 700feet from the 1000foot roll, i was like, take it out. it is not going to work. Ended up running fiber to the building from the other then a 200foot cat5e run to the cam.
