WiFi only works when I click on the wifi menu

Tonight, the wifi on my Macbook Pro (retina) has been acting really weird. It will work for a few minutes then stall but the moment I click on the wifi menu in the top bar the wifi comes back to life.

Anyone ever experience this?

EDIT: I'm wondering if the issue is heat related. I plugged my laptop into charge and the issue gets worse. And the laptop is getting so hot that the keys are warm when it's plugged in to charge...

The latest version. Just updated last night.

However, the issue seems to be the heat that it's generating during charging. When I unplugged the power the situation resolved itself.
