WIFI only at 11 mbps no matter where I am...

i have an ibm thinkpad a31 p with built in wifi (ibm high rate wireless lan minipc) and no matter what wifi connection i never get more than 11 mbps. i haven't had issues downloading or uploading, where i am now its actually quite fast. but am wondering why its only connecting at 11 mbps and how to fix it. i understand getting a new wireless card would probably fix it, but i recycled this computer after someone threw it out and don't want to put more than i have into it for new memory. any suggestions?
Thanks

A quick search on IBM.com says that the "High Rate Wireless LAN Mini PCI" adapter is B only, meaning that 11mpbs is the maximum connection speed possible for the adapter.
