Wifi on a home pc vs wired?

Many users on here using WIFI on their home desktop computer vs Ethernet?
Reason I ask, Most of my WIFI gadgets (Stereo, xbox, boxee, etc) are in the living room. My desktop is in my bedroom. My signal strength in the living room is about 40%

I just bought a wireless bridge ( http://microcenter.com/product/357929/4_Port_Wireless_N__Ethernet_Media_Bridge ), and was thinking of hooking that into my ethernet port on my mb (to become wifi), and move the cable modem/router to the living room.

I assume most users on here try to avoid WIFI on their main desktop pc due to lack of speed vs wired?

I don't have any issues with my wireless connection on my desktop unless I want to file share. I have a wired connection for that from my PC to any device I want to plug in.

I only use wireless on devices that need to be mobile, or devices that don't support anything else. Stationary devices get plugged in.

I have scaled mountains and waded through frigid waters water in my efforts to keep my desktop PC on a GbE connection.

To be sure, if I didn't have a file server, I would probably care considerably less. Trying to transfer 200GB of data over Gigabit Ethernet (50-90MB/s) sucks considerable less than doing it over wireless (~1.5 MBs on Wireless G).

To me, it's worth the effort to hook everything possible to GbE. The only things on wifi are laptops, ipad/phone, and stuff like the Roku (only because mine doesn't have one). Even my 360 and PS3 are wired, even though it would have been considerably easier to connect via wireless.

I have a NAS running unraid that pushes out 1080p content through Plex, so gigabit ethernet is very important to me.

I have a gigabit network in my living room, with both PCs and a printer and a NAS (now deceased) hooked up. Soon to have a nice 20TB server added.

Unfortunately, the internet connection is in another room. So I have some DD-WRT N routers in WDS config hooked up.

So my desktop computers are connected wirelessly, but they don't know that, they think that they are connected via ethernet.

wifi stinks still. unless you are 5 feet away from it but then you could use 1mm FLATWITE cat6 wiring to directly connect.

Too tough to run a cable between rooms?

I don't have a desktop, but most of my devices are mobile and I don't get many major issues.

I'm also too lazy to install Cat 6 in my house and associated drops, so wifi will suffice for now.

Wired: Never run into video streaming issues, and file transfer speed is fast.
Wireless: Sometimes run into video streaming issues in some areas of the house, and file transfer speed is not fast.

I prefer wires always if possible, my main gaming rig and Windows home server are both wired. However not all homes are pre-wired or can easily be set up that way. The new AC standard is quite good, my HTPC up a floor and across the house averages around 35-40 MB/sec transfers compared to 10-15 MB/sec it would see with 5Ghz wireless N and 6-7 MB/sec with 2.4Ghz wireless N. Really quite decent if you do not want to tear into your walls to run some cable around your house. Even my son with just a Netgear A6200 wireless AC adapter sees 20-25 MB/sec in the third floor of my house, the router is on the first floor.

My wireless connection is as fast as my WAN is. The only thing limited is LAN transfers ... for those needs I pull in. My connection never drops.

Yep I have the R6300 AC Router and the A6200 WiFi AC adapter and I am getting 582 Mbps on 5Ghz.
