I ahve a wired network with a LINKSYS rt-41 router & a switch that connects 4 computers & a printer. This all works.

I need to establish a WIFI link to this network so computers can get to network using various hotspots when we reach different marinas.

I bought a LINKSYS WET 54g BRIDGE but can not seem to get it to talk to the various computers. I have tried connecting to the ethernet port and also trhe INTERNET port.

The test laptop has a built in wifi card & I disqabled the rqadio to insure that the bridge supplied the link but never can find any wifi on any computer.

I also assume that if I leave the SSID blank on the BRIDGE that it will pass on all hotspots and then I can select the one I need, but again I never see any hotspots.

I need help setting this up

Thanks

Welcome to AnandTech Network Forum.

A WET54G connected to the WAN port of the Router should work OK and should provide Wireless Internet Connection to a Network. If you plug it to a regular port you lose the Routing.

I think that the problem is using it for Hot Spot. The WET is an independent unit and when you are trying to use it for Hot Spot you have No control on any of the parameters the might need to be used.

You probably better off plug it to a regular computer with two NICS and use ICS configuring the Router as a dumb switch.

Thanks, Is there a better solution other than the bridge?? If not What is ICS ? Can I make the router a static IP and then plug this into the router? I do not have 2 NICS

A single computer can join an external Network and assume the external IP.

A Network needs Routing (or bridging) to work with a second Network. It can be done with a Router or a second NIC, there is no way around it.
