WiFi issue...... help?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to help figure out this problem. I'm pretty sure it's a simple fix but It has eluded me thus far...

I recently upgraded from 25/25 to 50/25 (Verizon FIOS) and although wired I see the results (typically 65/35 on wire), over wireless I am still seeing the 25/25 speed(s) like before. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers hoping it may reset everything and reconfigure to the new 50/25 speed, but to no avail. Is there something I am missing? My wireless adapter is more than capable so it must be something I am simply overlooking, something tied to the old 25/25 standard?

Any help is appreciated.
 
What kind of wireless router and adapter do you have? If you are getting 25 mbps on a "G" connection, that's actually extremely good. 25 mbps for an "N" connection is a bit on the slow side but still well within the expected range unless you have perfect conditions with short distances and no interference.
 
I have the wireless set up provided by Verizon, capable of much more than 50/25. The adapter I have is a Atheros AR9485 which supports 802.11b/g and n. I am within a relative short distance (always within 10-20 ft) and always maxed out the 25/25 when that was the limit. But now it seems to stay the same 25/25 speed even though I upgraded to 50/25.

I am thinking that the wireless in the laptop somehow still thinks there is a 25/25 line and thus not seeing or utilizing the 50/25? Is that possible?

The adapter doesn't store any information about previous connection speeds. It will always negotiate the fastest possible stable speed it can get at the time, and will continue adjusting constantly as conditions change.
 
I have many things connected although not always on at the same time. 360, Wii, PS3, 2 computers including my laptop and a tablet (not sure what they are all rated). Right now, nothing but my laptop is connected and I am getting like 27/25 on the new 50/25 line (wireless). But like I said earlier, wired it sees 65/35 or so. Am I just expecting too much over the wireless? I just assumed that since I could get 25/25 over the rated 25/25 line that I would see the same saturation over the 50/25...?

The Wii, and possibly your tablet, are G only. With those on the network, everything will connect at G speeds even if they are capable of N speeds unless your router has simultaneous dual band radios (the stuff you get from Verizon doesn't do this).

Well then, that should explain it. Will turning those devices off be enough to unleash the N band?
 
You can upgrade your FIOS 1000/1000 and the Wireles as is would be still 25/25 since there is No real relation speed wise between the two.

The best Wireless you would get if you add a Dual Band Wireless Router configureed as an Access Point to the Verizon Router, and install Dual Band Client cards on all your Wireless Devices.


Functionally leave the Device that can not be upgraded to Dual Band (like phones, ps3, tablets) connected as is to the Verizon Router.

Then add a Dual Band Wireless, upgrade Desktops and Laptops to Dual band and connect them to the new Wireless.

Yes and no. It would let you get wireless N speeds when ONLY the N devices are turned on, but you'll still drop to G speeds any time a G device connects. If you are considering getting a new device anyway, do what Jack said and get a separate N router to use as an access point only for the N devices and have the G devices continue connecting directly to the Verizon modem/router.

Ok, I'll look in to that too. But being a dual band router, the one I listed above could not handle both at the same time? Sorry if that is a dumb question...
