WiFi failing on a Fios modem

is it possible for the WiFi to fail on an integrated modem/router for Fios? I'm pretty sure its the ActionTech unit, my WiFi range has decreased and I only get about 1MB speed on it now, I used to get 15-20MB (depending on the device).
I really don't want to call Fios support, I know it will not be a fun call and my network is password protected plus I doubt any of my neighbors have hacked into it.
Seems odd that its failing but the wired part is perfectly fine.

**I have 50 up and down Fios service only a thermostat and two smart phones are on the network. Two people in the house no kids.

It's absolutely possible. Most all-in-one units like that are of pretty mediocre quality. Have you tried connecting to a different wireless network (like a library or something) to test the speed and range you get there, to eliminate your device as the source of the problem, just to be sure?

Yes I have. I just figured if it would fail either the whole unit would fail or WiFi would completely fail. I can't figure out why the speed has been so drastically cut. The box is in the same place, nothing has changed.

We've had ours two years. the wifi has been getting weird. I use the ethernet for my computers but moms laptop is on wifi and she's always having issues. Ditto my smartphone.

I know that Realtek N150 / N300 2.4Ghz USB adapters don't seem to get along with the VZ ActionTec routers. They show a connection speed that's fairly high, but only get like 1Mbit/sec of actual throughput.

Ugh I know I'm going to get offered the "free" quantum gateway if I sign a 2yr contract.

**FiOS rant....warning....overall I'm satisfied with FiOS however they need to learn from their wireless group about retention. Drive me nuts that new customers get substantially better costs than existing. For example I thought about adding a DVR but the new Customer free for the first year was not available to me but I could get more channels free for 90 days. That has zero value to me. During that call I asked about the new gateway, that cost $200 for me. Now that my most recent contract is almost up I get daily emails and weekly usps FiOS offers all attached to 2yr agreement that are almost as good as the new customer offers.
Amateurs! I've been in sales a long time, I realize new money always trumps old money but they need to get better at balancing the two.
