WiFi disconnects during "standby"

Got a new laptop a couple months ago and haven't really had time to check out all the features. But one thing I'm noticing that is bugging me is that when my laptop goes into standby mode, it's apparently disconnecting from my WiFi. When I come out of standby, I have to wait a few secs for it to reconnect. Kind of an issue for me because obviously, it's not receiving mail, IM's, etc. during standby.

Any way to change this without disabling "standby" or putting a major delay on it? I've checked my power options (both Windows and Toshiba), as well as my wireless settings but can't seem to find a way to maintain every aspect of standby except disconnecting from my network.

When you say you 'checked your power settings' - do you mean for your wireless NIC, or just the laptop? Make sure you disable the 'Allow computer to turn off to save power' checkbox for your wireless card in Device Manager...

your computer is more or less off in standby mode, there is no way around it not turning off wifi and any network connections.
