WIFI connection on laptop, going sour after a while

I've noticed that my new laptop when it connects to a wireless network it if there is a decent signal, it will connect well to it. But after a while of being connected even if nothing has changed/been moved around the signal will start to go bad. Now after finding out about this I changed my WIFI channel to 11 and it was a much better signal over all but then it started to happen agian and I have no idea why. So I changed the channel to 1 and it was good but then it did it AGIAN. Remember the laptop is on for a few days and every other day or 3rd day it would start to go sour. Anyone have any ideas why it does this? When I went to a friend's house a connected to some one elses lan (leeching I guess) the connections were good but then they started to do the same thing as listed above and now I'm thinking, what is really going on? Please help.

are you sure its the laptop? resetting the laptop only fixs it? what about leaving the laptop alone and just resetting the access point?

no thats what I meant, when I change the "channel" on the router it goes away but when I'm leaching off some one else, I didn't bother to change the channel. Why does it go away only for a while when I reset it?

What kind of a router.

Almost all routers have a preamble type set it to long, usually with dlink, if linksys set to short, try both ways. this helps alot some times.. last case senario update the firmware of the router

Check the power management setting for the wireless card. It may be set to conserve power after a time.
