wifi connection dropping ?

Hey People,
I had just replaced my ATT router (yes att) with a new Linksys WRT54G wireless router.
Its a great router, but its giving me weird issues. Apparently my WIFI drops on my laptop for some reason, internet will be running great, all of a sudden, the "this page cannot be viewed" comes up on firefox, and then the try again button comes up, you click that, the loading bar goes fast as hell, but the page doesnt, and same issue with IE7. I have tried repairing connection, disable and enable wifi, but same results, only way the problem gets fixed is by restarting. This never happend on my crap ATT router, also i can ping places and that works too, and my AIM works fine as well
any ideas ?

Mixed is for mixed 802.11b and 802.11g hardware. Check if the wireless channel is set to Auto. Can't recall if the WRT54G firmware has site survey, I'm running DD-WRT on mine. If it does, then set channel manually and avoid channels being used by other people. Stick to channels 1, 6 and 11. If not, Auto works pretty good enough.

i think i might just replace my router....since its giving me so many problems
im able to still ping, but just not internet...which is lame

well, i replaced my router
and the problem persists
its my laptop, the wifi messes up, i cant even reach the router with the IP address, but i can still get on AIM and talk to people
both IE and FF do the same thing, they wont go to any site, the load bar loads fast and the page goes no where
any idea ?

laptop has internal wifi
the internet drops SUDDENLY, it works perfectly fine after i restart it
so there shouldnt be any other problem to it
this doesnt happen on any other device in my house, this never happend before.

Check the antenna, your symptoms reak of interferrence.

Even with your internal card there are antenna connections, you need to check those. Or just run netstumbler on the card to get a realistic signal to noise ratio. Everything with wireless depends on the environment, how antennas are positioned, noise, etc.

odd...i will run netstumbler,
antenna on the router, i mean it suddenly stops, ONLY IE and FF do this, AIM and other things function properly
i can ping places, i have a strong wifi connection, but just the internet does not work at all

Well then you may have a corrupt tcp/ip stack. google "repair tcp/ip stack"

But the difference between browser traffic and pings/aim is VERY different and isn't a good indication of what is really going on.

Do you know the model number of the wireless card in your laptop? Netstumbler works just fine with the Broadcom 4318 card in my Acer laptop.

I think thats a vista thing,
I dont know if you have vista, But i know that if you have vista and run netstumbler its a mixed bag if it will work or not. I know it doesnt work with my HP notebook with a broadcom in it

Please, try changing channels like others have suggested. 1, 6, or 11. Pick the one that's most stable. If you can do a site survey and figure out the best one, even better.
