Wifi Antenna Suggestions

I use a USB Wifi Adapter and the reception is lacking in my new room. Desperate, I am now considering a PCI + External Antenna setup. There are many options here, but I'd like some suggestions.

Right now TP-Link's parabolic dish looks appealing, but have no clue how I would mount it indoors. Do they have tripod mounts for this sort of stuff?

A more practical and portable option would probably be a yagi, but the gain is lower and frankly, there are so many to choose from I have no clue what to look for besides db.

Indoor use and no bigger than 2 feet. Any suggestions appreciated.

Have you tried a USB extension cable to try and locate the adapter in a good spot?

Playing with Antenna indoor usually does not yield significant improvement signal wise.

Better off to get a second Wireless Router, lay one cable to a good spot in the hallway toward the new room and install the second Wireless Router configured as an Access Point.

Unfortunately, I am a tenant so modifying anything like that wouldn't be allowed 🙁

Also, why would an antenna indoor not yield a better signal?

Ethernet Over Power Line comes to mind.

I have bought two large antennas for the router from eBay. I think the antennas are 15DBi. If you buy a compatible router for the third party firmware DD-WRT you can crank up the wattage. I have a WRT54GL.
