Wifi adapter for Dish Network VIP211

I'd like to hook up my Dish Network VIP211 receiver to wifi. My options are to buy the "official" Dish Network wifi adapter (~ $30) or I can buy something similar from MonoPrice for about $12.

I know... it's not that much of a price difference, but still...

Has anyone tried a generic wifi adapter with a Dish receiver and gotten it to work? MonoPrice has all sorts of warnings about "this wifi adapter will work only with Windows and/or Apple systems"

So I just bought a non Dish Network USB wifi adapter and it doesn't work. Did you ever find out if a non-Dish adapter will work?

I haven't found out yet. I did some googling, and it seems like some people can get them to work. There must be some trick to doing it.
