Didn't exactly know where to put this & I'm not an Apple guy. This is the only piece of Apple equipment we own & wife just got it last night from her girlfriend for her B-day/Christmas.

If you plug it into the computer it works fine. Eject & disconnect & it won't do a thing. No nuttin'.

It's charged fully
I've done the 2 finger reset.
I've done the "restore" via Itunes

Nothing works.

Any ideas from folks here??

Ahh.. I know what to do.

1) Take a handycam, start rolling.
2) Take a sledgehammer and bang the crap out of your nano.
3) Post on IAmAnIdiotAndIAmCrazyToSmashMyIpod.com

No, but descent question.

Part of the reset process is switching the hold button on and then off again.

OK, I *think* I may have figured it out.

It was connected to a P3 Thinkpad laptop USB 1.1 port and *may* not have had the juice to charge this thing.

I've now got it hooked up to a USB 2.0 port on my desktop & it's not saying "charged" anymore.

It may have been that it simply had zero power once separated from the USB port & perhaps the Thinkpad USB port just isn't fit for charging. (???)

ummm ... did you charge it with the wall charger first? this happened to my 2 yr old ipod the other day. i charged it via my usb port and it stayed on. apparently, the battery was so low that taking it off usb charge, it still wouldnt function. so i plugged it into the wall w/ the wall charger and an hour later it's fine.

Chances are this is correct. USB ports don't have to provide enough power to charge a battery or even run a peripheral. For example, the USB ports on the front of my tower can't charge a battery.

I dunno about that I was able to charge my Zen Touch from my USB ports that were powered on my PC.

There is no wall charger.

The Nano comes w/ headphones and a usb cable.......'sit!

But it's confirmed.........battery's fatally low! For whatever reason, it's not charging on the back of the Thinkpad, nor the front of my Dell. I've now got the sucker running on a usb port on the BACK to see if that helps any.

Next thing I'm gonna do is take it down to the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant & see if they've got anything that'll charge this somb!tch!!! :|

I'm also noticing some things about Itunes that work TOTALLY ILOGICALLY!!!!

You can drag tunes over from the library to your device, but before I figured this out, I tried furiously to copy & paste (as the menu gives you the option) from library to device, but it won't work.

Not that Gates is better, but Apple's logic is definitely 'different'! :p

I agree on iTunes, it's confusing. I just got a nano and it took me a while to figure out how to get songs/podcasts onto it.
Now if I could only figure out how to delete stuff from within iTunes, real delete not just remove from iTunes.

I had the exact same problem with a Nano.

The only way to get it to work was via the wall charger, as brtspears2 above me suggested (fortunately, my sister has a first generation mini, and it came with the wall charger).

Leave it plugged into your computer for a few hours.. it's obviously low on juice.

Can't expect something that's low on power to just magically spring to life when it's not hooked up to a power source, and the USB ports and "trickle" charging don't do a damn bit of good.

Well, if you're anywhere near San Onofre you're welcome to swing by my house and plug it in. I have a wall charger you could use to see if you can get it working. I'm in North County San Diego.

BTW-My 40GB iPod was drained completely because my wife and I both have Nanos but she lost hers so I tried charging it up on the USB connector but it wouldn't work. The wall charger got it back up and running though.
