Wife's in Puerto Rico - What to do with 17 month old son? now with 100% moar pics

So my wife is in Puerto Rico for work (seriously), and I am on kid duty for the rest of the week. I'd like to take advantage of the opportunity and do something cool with my son (who is 17 months old). Unfortunately, I live in a fairly small town in NH, and have exhausted most of the obvious kid friendly activities (playground, walking to the dog park, seeing the boats in the harbor, going to the local beaches, throwing a ball around, reading his books, going to the local coffee shop (lots of dogs for him to pet), getting ice cream, etc.).

Anyone got any suggestions for other fun kid friendly activities I could do with my son? He and I both love the outdoors, but an indoor activity would be fine too.

If it helps, I live in Portsmouth NH.

he's 17 months old...there isn't much you can do with him yet that would be cool or that he'd remember. you could probably give an empty soda bottle and he'd play with it for hours on end.

Take him hiking. If there's a place with decent trails, you can put him in a wagon, and tow him a long way. You could also take him canoeing if you have decent flatwater close by.

Your local library may also have kids computers, loaded with lots of fun activities. You could get him started using the mouse.

You are probably right that he would play witha soda bottle. But that doesn't mean he and I can't do something fun together that is a little more involved. I never said that the activity had to be memorable. Just different than our usual fare.

Yeah, my sister in law has one of those baby backpacks that are built for hiking. I might try that out.

He is already pretty good with the mousepad on my wife's laptop. He loves ot look at photos (especially of himself), and he knows how to advance the slideshow by pushing the arrow keys. Pretty amazing to watch.

17 months is very very young, you could do the same 2 things & it would still be new & exciting.

Go to Christmas Tree Shop or Ocean State Job Lot, buy one of those bubble blowing big loop sets. Toddlers love it [use nontoxic soap], they chase the big bubbles all over. Then can try it themselves.

Like the others have said, at 17 months, just doing anything with him is fun for him. But there is also coloring, knock over block towers, rides in a wagon ... that's all I can come up with at the moment.

Is there a decent zoo nearby? Take him to that. My daughter loves the zoo(just turned 2). Especially if they have a kids section where they can pet the animals.

Do what most sensible parents do in your situation... pop in a looping dvd for the kid and go play wow for 12 hours.
