I went to a gyno appt. with an ex gf once. It was just a regular checkup. Don't ask me why I went, but I did. Anyways, I regret not bringing something to do, something to stay occupied. I wish I brought a magazine, a book, a god damn spinach color gameboy at least, because it was real awkward in there. A bunch of women staring at you, nothing but women magazines everywhere.....

You're not in for much, from your perspective, they probably won't do an internal. Urine test, blood pressure, regular checkup (heart, breathing, etc.) they'll measure the uterus, and that's the only difference from a regular physical.

I have, on two occasion, fornicated with a woman in such a manner that it led to a partial replication of my DNA.

So, what to expect?

The first thing is that you want to take your wife to a male OBGYN so he isn't "vagina biased." Since he doesn't have his own, he is more likely to be attentive to other's vaginas.

Second, make sure he does a smell test. Good OBs can tell many things by taking a strong whiff of the area. It may help him detect an infection, STD, or anything of the sort. Occasionally they may also take a taste to determine if there is a yeast infection, but not often, and this usually only happens during the first visit or two, not later in the months.

Third, expect extreme discomfort as he inserts seemingly random objects into his orrifices. It is considered in poor taste, although it happens frequently, for the OB to look at you in the eyes while he does this and smirk.

Fourth, make sure he doesn't wear gloves. Like condoms, they cut down on the sense of feel and he may not be able to tell if the womb is in the correct position, the cervix is point down, or if she shaves.

Lastly, watch his technique to see if your wife enjoys it. If she does, either do the same things he did with that cool duck-bill looking thing, or invite him over for dinner.

Ask him to bring his stirrups.

QFT.

I couldn't be an OB/GYN for the same reason I couldn't work at my favorite restaurant: once you see what goes on behind the scenes, you will never want to eat there again.

LOL, my uncle is an OB/GYN. The above statement is probably pretty true.

One of my friends dad is a OBGYN and he met his wife at his office, she was a patient. Never got the chance to ask how ackward that pass had to be, but she was pretty hot.

Wow, seems unethical in a way.

I remember hearing a comedian before saying something about how that must ruin the joy of seeing that region of a lady after the nasty things they must see (infections, etc...) :(

TMI.

Frankly the only ones you need to go to are the ultrasounds. If you do choose to go, you may get to hear a heartbeat, but the rest holds no interest for you

I went to a couple visits (my wife is currently pregnant w/ our first), it wasn't so bad. Her Doc is a huge football fan so that helped a lot. I didn't really sit there staring while they were poking around, but it was awesome to hear the baby's heartbeat for the first time. I would have gone to more, but my work schedule doesn't allow it.

I did bring my GBA and played it while we were waiting in the waiting room.

At 9 weeks, there's not much to see. They may do an internal since nothing would show up on the external. It's fairly uneventful this early on, it's not until later do you get to see something that closely resembles a human, and you won't hear a heartbeat for a while. As for your SO's nausea, it will go away soon. It's usually only there for the first trimester, but she will be tired for the duration, and her feet may start to swell much later on and that's not cool.

<---- wife has 60 days left until the due date of our first child (boy)

<---- has not missed a SINGLE OB/GYN appointment with her
