Wife's computer can not connect to internet

My wife fell victim to a virus attack when using facebook. I have removed the virus, at least I think, using Norton and Spyware Doctor with AV. The trouble is Internet Explorer will not connect to any websites. It goes to 127.0.0.1 which my understanding is just her computer. IE then tries to add another "www" on the front and .com, .edu, .gov, and .org on the front. What should I do to fix this?

Thanks

PS Her email program works fine so it is Internet Explorer specific.

Does firefox or another browser work?

Have you tried resetting the browser settings (should be in Tools -> Internet Options)?

IE is the only browser installed and the computer will not connect to any web sites. It goes through a list adding .com, .org, .gov. and .edu to whatever I put in the address field with an additional www..

I reset the settings in tools but that did not help.

Have you tried downloading another broswer on another system and then putting it on your wife's system via USB jumpdrive?

Have you tried resetting the network adapter?

What version of IE is she running?

I had tried to restart the computer in safe mode, but her new USB keyboard doesn't seem to work unless it is in Windows. I got out an old Keyboard port keyboard and restarted in Safe Mode. I blanked out the network settings and restarted into normal mode. I reset the network settings and it is now working. Seems like the network stuff got all jumbled up by the virus.
