Wife went ballistic today...

So I constantly get to hear about how frustrated she is with the kids dumping trash in our yard on their way home from school (elementary kids walking home), and today I witnessed something truly horrific. I guess she'd had enough... because all I heard was "Not again, you little punk," a slamming of the screen door and some intense scalding outside. I walked to the window and the poor kid was crying... I decided to just keep to myself at that point.

well it sucks that kids are dropping trash in your yard.

but it sucks more that your wife yelled at some kid.
Does she know for sure that it was the same kid who is always dropping trash?
Expect a flaming bag of shit on your doorstep next week.

I don't know man.

hell hath no fury like a pissed off wife.

Place a trash can on your yard with a sign that says "please respect the environment. Put trash here".

(if only it was that easy. 😛)

Yeah, that's what I told her... she felt horrible afterwards.

how much trash are we talking about? like a candy wrapper every so often? or a bag of trash?

They turned the area down the street into section 8 housing a year ago... you wouldn't believe how much trash ends up in our yard... we're moving VERY soon.

Good for her. Personally I think kids should receive daily half-hour spankings regardless of behavior, but in today's world even a rare scolding is more than most parents are capable of, as evidenced by the fact the little shit was crying. The journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step.

While its possible some intermediate steps could have been taken (signs, a calm talking to, even a fence) etc., sometimes kids need a firm talking to to break through the attitude of "I can do whatever I want." Whether or not this was the appropriate time for it, I don't know, but you can be certain that the kid will remember this incident.

Does it matter? If it was the first time this particular kid dropped any trash in someone's yard, he/she deserved an ass-chewing.

Uhh, yeah, it matters.
When the punishment is more severe due to frequency of crime, that kid just absorbed the anger that was likely caused by several other kids.
Did he deserve an ass chewing, yeah, probably. But not by the OPs wife, by his parents.

I can't blame the wife though. We all lose judgment and make poor decisions.

I disagree. The natural consequence of putting trash in someones yard is an asschewing, at the least. Kids should face these consequences as well. They shoudln't get a free pass just because their parents aren't there.
