You know...Christians often are urged to get married as soon as possible. The only reason they can't get married at 14 is because we have the separation of church and state. These super young marriages are often in countries that are theocracies. Don't think Christianity is above such a thing.

Umm source? I don't know any mainstream denomination Christian who believe people should be getting married at 14 or in high school.

You'll get lunatics at the fringe of any religion, but the above is just biased. Culturally hundreds/thousands of years ago, marriage happened much younger but that was societal.

You can't wait to 25 to get married when the life expectancy is 30 lol.

Pretty much this. Its silly to judge the marriage customs of 3rd world countries from the perspective of America where according to Obamacare 25 year olds are children.

That's because you can't get married in our society until you're an adult. They do stress getting married as young as possible in many denominations. Probably all for all I know but I won't talk in absolutes. There are multiple reasons for this. If the average age people get married is something like 26 then how many of these Christians have had multiple sex partners? How many are at risk of not having children or not enough children if they wait? Religion relies on it's members to have children in order to maintain their numbers and grow.

It's like when the bull kills the matador.

Good job, I say.

No one should be forced into marriage; age is only a compounding factor.

No age limits have been fixed by Islam for marriage according to Reuben Levy,[32] and "quite young children may be legally married". The girl may not live with the husband however until she is fit for marital sexual relations.[32] The Hanafi madhhab of Islamic fiqh maintains that a wife must not be taken to her husband's house until she reaches the condition of fitness for sexual relations. Levy adds

Seems to me like Islam is totally down with marrying 14 year old girls.

Which shouldn't be really surprising since essentially all religions date from a time where marrying 14 year old girls would not have been illogical.

Of course you can get married in our society before you're an adult. 14 is allowed in several states with permission of parents and/or a judge. 16 is allowed in most states (although there are additional requirements to obtain the marriage licence).

How many Christians believe in this? Why don't you call out the radical Islamists who engage in this?

The age thing really isn't a big deal. Thomas Edison himself married a teenager and he was American.

I was talking about forced marriage, but hey ho.

Catholicism apparently doesn't have a problem with marrying 14 year old girls either:

@ Sonikku

I'd say the age thing is a big deal. A 14 year old deciding to get married? Seriously?
