Wife was sick, I did the grocery shopping...

Fritzo

Lifer
When we go shopping, my wife usually pushes the cart, and she goes so fast I bearly have time to load things up. Yesterday she has a stomach flu thing, so I go to Kroger on my own.

MISTAKE

I loaded up the cart with everything I've always wanted, but never had time to get 😀 The cart was piled so high I couldn't load it up anymore. My jaw dropped when the bill came to $440, but after using that stupid Kroger card it went down to $338---we usually spend about $150 on our family of 4 LOL!

It took two freakin' hours to put groceries away heheheh. Who wants dinner!!!!!

I have to go to the store by myself or I end up spending 5 times more. My fiance likes to buy everything that looks good and always "has to have" something. 🙂
Another tip: NEVER GO TO THE STORE HUNGRY!
You will buy all kinds of food you don't even like, or will never eat.

You're a fatty right?

i grew up in a family of 5 spending that much is not uncommon, especially if you live in the northeast where produce & meat costs 2x what it does anywhere else, we also only went shopping every 2 weeks or so because we lived 25 min from the store. BOONIES FTW

however it only took 2 people 20 min to put away 500$ worth of food

Judging from his post count, I'd say yes

😕

I have a family of 4 and I like to cook. I'm 6'4 and 215---not exactly a "fatty".

How does post count = weight? Just curious.

2 hours to put them away? do you not have any hands or are you actually a sloth?

I had to clear out the freezer and cabinets of old stuff to make room.

you kidding me? that's like just one steak dinner for us

I don't really like red meat 😱. I'm also too lazy to really cook, so I just buy things I can nuke. Although, pasta is usually fine as it cooks pretty fast.

thats why, if you purchased meat , fresh fruit and produce you would be spending a LOT more,

good food is expensive 🙁

All I buy is fresh food and I only spend around $40 a week for myself. However, I pretty much stick to buying stuff thats on sale and store-brand.

I walk to the grocery store so I never come away with lots of food.
300.00 on groceries would last me two months 🙂

I usually spend about 100-ish every two weeks for just myself.

To the OP, did you buy food that everyone in your family will eat or just yourself? My dad tends to buy a ton of food items that only he likes, and usually that everyone else can't stand. Then he complains when those items go bad and have to be thrown out.

LOL about the "fatty" posts

The reality is that $338 isn't much, and especially if you are in to eating healthy. I spend twice that, twice per month.

(Take a look at how much lean chicken breasts, lean turkey, and salmon steaks cost...)

If he was a fatty, he could have gotten by for less than $100. 😛

When we first bought a house and budgeted living together, we threw in a figure of $400/mo. for groceries. I think we've actually spent like $150/mo. the last few years. With the twins coming I'm sure it will be double soon.
