My wife is set on getting an Acura TSX 2006..

I was told that the new model will come up in October..

MSRP is around $28,500..

We has them down to $27,000.

Currently we have 2002 GTI with 55k miles on it.

They wanted to sell the car for $27,200 and tradein value of the GTI for $10,000

Was that a good deal? We told them that we would think about it.

I'd try to sell the GTI yourself. You should be able to get much more for it that way.

TSX is a great car. You'll love it!

I'd not do that trade in deal with them.

Try CarMax if you have one around, they usually give blue book value and will buy your car from you even if you don't buy from them.

My brother did that with his last car and got more from CarMax than the deal would have given him.

I would buy the GTI for $10k! Man, that dealer's ripping you off... The undervalue in trade-in more than makes up their small cut back on MSRP. Classic dealer scheme

GTI is fully paid for and also have transferrable extended warranty to 2009.

I think edmunds also states that GTI is around $9k for trade in and about $11 for sell..

tell your wife to drive the car until the warranty expires. By that time you'll have enough saved to buy a benz cash.

I take it that the $27,000 is for non-navigation and auto transmission?
If so, you can do a lot better than that.

I paid $28,00 for an '06 black/black, manual, nav which is supposedly one of the rarest combinations.
They had to place a special order from Japan to get this.
The 6 speed by itself is rare enough, but throw in nav and that specific color combination, and it's nearly impossible to find.
There's maybe 2 other people on the TSX forums with this combo.

Anyway, you should be able to get a non-nav model for low $26k.
5AT's are a dime a dozen, so that should give you even more negotiating power.

The trade-in on the GTI is somewhat within market value. You might be able to squeeze a couple hundred more. See if they can match Carmax's appraisal.
