Wife wants some more diamonds.

KK

Lifer
She wants a ring with three oval diamonds, with the middle one being slightly larger than the side stones. And of course she wants it set in platinum. We went to a local jewelry store and they wanted 4500 dollars for one with a tcw of 1.5 carats. I think thats too much to spend on one. I've been trying to price out loose diamonds and have come up with about 3500 for 2 .40 carat rocks and one .7 carat rock. I don't know how much the setting would run, the best guess on that would be around $1000, which would bring the total up to about what the jewelry store wants. Although I don't know what quality diamonds are in that one. I could probably go down to under 3000 if I choose less quality stones. I've been looking at solomon brothers website for prices, I'd have to pay taxes if I got it from them since they are in georgia. Is there any other well priced sites to get diamonds from?

I'd rather have her pick a boat or something useful.

Hmm... So this isn't for engagement/marriage?

Explain to her that it isn't a wise investment.

Jewels and precious metals are investments... boats depreciate.

But you do get a whole lot of enjoyment out of it though...

LOL, really...Maybe she'll forget about it today, and maybe she won't remember about it for a long time. Maybe get I'll get her one with two diamond side stones and a sapphire in the middle for chistmas. That should run alot cheaper. Too bad women aren't all like men. Men don't waste money on fricken useless garbage.

Seems like there's a certain kind of woman that gets diamonds. They all want them but they need to work to get them IMO.

Good luck with your dilema,

Gravity

Why not just say no? What's she gonna do, leave you? If she will, might as well be now than later. 🙂

Just say no, she'll be pissy for a day or two and then forget it, basically you'll endure a couple of days of pain to save 5k, sounds good to me.

Explain to her how that money can be used to pay bills or a downpayment on a house or umm paying for kids college...

I'll never understand why some women want those kinds of rings. To me, a simple ring is perfect. One stone, that's not big, in a simple setting.

I don't really like jewlery though. The only rings I wear are my engagement ring and my wedding band. Both are simple and beautiful. They were given to me with lots of love, and that makes them perfect. 😀

I am a simple person as well... its what the ring symbolises that really counts...

Tell her to get a job, or if she has one, a better paying career, before this becomes a habit that keeps you in the poor house.
