wife is going with another female friend in a couple of months to NY for vacation. everything is done except the hotel.

First question. how is this area for 2 girls? the price was pretty good, so I want to know if this area is safe, and whether it is close to the main attractions in manhattan.
I confirmed with the hotel that they have a free shuttle that will take them to and from the Laguardia airport. about the safety, Ofcourse they would say that the area is safe.
They do not have a bus to take the girls to manhattan, but they just told me that they are pretty close to a train station that will take the girls to manhattan(empire state bulding, time square, etc etc). I asked them if the train station/bus/subway is 'walkable distance, and they said yes.
We have never been to NY before so want to see what you guys thought. Is this area really pretty close to manhattan and some of the main attractions? Is the bus/subway/train really walkable distance from the hotel?
