Wife having problems with amalgams (silver+mercury)

Sounds like the absolute worst excuse for a dentist that I've heard of to date.

Keep us up to date...I'd love to see that letter you'll write.

Make sure those bastards never practice again at the most.

She just needs to get the perm crown finished, and we're done with them. Although based on her recent experience with this temp crown, I'm not even sure that is a good idea. 🙁

I had all my old metal fillings from 20yrs ago (4) replaced with porcelain this summer. Best money I ever spent.

We just switched to them.

I had a preliminary checkup - full xrays, pictures, and tooth density tests. Their equipment is top quality, new stuff - and I had a cleaning. The cleaning was great too. They used a high pressure water thing(?) instead of scraping my teeth.

She had her xrays, pictures, etc. with no problem, and also a cleaning with no problem. But that was with one of the better assistants that have been there awhile. When she started the amalgam removal, it was with Dr. L who is the guy that runs the office, and I think all of the assistants are interns.

QFT. It's idiots like that which make people apprehensive about visiting the Dentist. Which might explain the overall lack of dental hygiene we have in this country. (Well, that, and the cost. 😀)

what is a tooth density test?

they used an ultrasonic instrument to clean your teeth. it's not new at all, but it sure beats scraping all the gunk off with a plain metal instrument.

They touch each tooth with some kind of wand, and an audible screech changes pitch to let them know if their contact is good and how dense the enamel is. It also gives some kind of numeric reading they record I guess to compare for later.

Basically they're testing for cavities and softness without using a pik. A lot more accurate and in many cases lets them prevent having to ever drill.

My wife did say that Dr. L did know what he was doing when he was giving her novacaine - the shots didn't hurt at all and she didn't feel any pain during the whole procedure. She's been to a LOT of dentists and said as far as that is concerned, so far he has been the best.
 
I feel sorry for your wife. I hate going to the dentist and with this I feel great in having a good dentist that takes care of me. I've been to the dentist many times for crowns, crown replacements, filing, changing from silver filing to the white one and I've never had any problems. You may want to complain to the dental insurance they belong to and hopefully they can do something.
