Most ppl would start flaming my choice for some reason, but my good ol' standbys are Sony MDR-7502 Professionals. Can be had for about your budget.

well sh!t on me, there's a ton of results, i appologize

I have sennheiser 555's and I highly reccomend them (senns that is - the 555s are more than your price limit) for comfort and sound. I purchased them from headphone.com - which I can't reccommend enough for their customer service - however they are not the cheapest store out there.

This deal picked up over in hot deals is good, but they are not over-the-ear - more like on-the-ear. Personally I don't like that style as much, but if it's what you are looking for, it's a good deal

Sennheiser HD-497s on sale at Amazon for $39

OMG for just $39 you would be crazy not to buy them, I LOVE mine and paid much more for them.

paid $39 for them plus a free set of MX400 a couple of months ago =)

I think the 497's are a great deal in the under $50 catagory...a pair of Grado 80's would also be good for a little more and the previously mentioned Sony 7502's

well it doesn't have to be under $50, $60-70 would be also ok. if the HD-497 i good then i might just go with that.

sony mdr-v7s are also a great set of cans to consider for that price range. although itll run you a tad bit more. the hd497s are also great. and the sr60s as well.

in-ear use for home is not a good choice in my opinion. the sound quality will be very very good and the isolation is incredible, but the comfort might be an issue and the last thing you want is to be sitting at home having to constantly fiddle with your earbuds or canal phones.

I agree with the choice of the Sennheiser HD497s (I have em'), but you should also consider the Grado SR60s, as LongCoolMother suggested.
