So my 2 year old took mommy's phone which she lets him play with all the time in the bathtub :whiste:

I bought the phone from google. is there some type of insurance I could have gotten for it? I'm trying to plan for the next phone.

check the credit card you bought it with, they may provide some coverage for purchases. i know amex does.

i know amex and discover offer coverage for user error breaks or stolen property within 90 days of purchase and then an extended warranty if there's an mfg issue with the unit.

I dropped my Nexus5 and shattered the screen. I called Discover and they reimbursed me for the cost to fix it. When they sent me paperwork, i saw a section to report the phone stolen and they'll pay for a replacement with proper police paperwork and filing.

It's worth a call! I'll never buy nice/big electronic purchases without Discover or AMEX

This.

I doubt any of those cover accidental damage.

Amex covers accidental damage up to 90 days from purchase. I used it when I cracked the back of my nexus 4. They reimbursed me and I just kept using the phone since they didn't need me to send it to them.

Thanks everyone it was bought about 10 months ago

Probably not much you could do at this point.

Though, I'd say insurance on small electronics is generally wasting money. If you pocket the money you'd save from not buying insurance on those items, you'd effectively be self-insured against the few times you should need to use it.

Household insurance? Mine covers stuff like that.

I probably wouldnt claim something like that very often (or at all) as I guess they would seriously ramp up the cost of your policy though.

Take the risk and send it to Google/LG. I friend of mine dropped and cracked the screen on his Motorola G phone. Motorola quoted him a price of $125 to fix the screen. In the end he got a brand new phone for free.
