wierd winxp cpu info

I have a ibm a20m thinkpad. p3 700mhz.

Bios shows same info, strangely in Winxp it shows I have a p3 547 mhz.

I tried cpuz and various others. they have 547 just as winxp.

I even checked with ibm website it only comes in p3 700 or celeron 500.

Its well out of warranty but its bugs me as to why winxp shows it.

Anyone know why would be the problem or ways to check what true speed the system operating at? 700 or the displayed 547.

I think it's intel's speedstep. Suppose to extend battery life by slowing down the cpu when it's not in heavy use. Have fun trying to disable it.

You can download a cpu identifier from intel to make sure what kind of cpu you have.

Or you can set it to full speed all the time, then test it. I hear setting your power configuration to "always on" sets it to full speed, sometimes it is also an option in the bios.
