Wierd thing I was told...

A friend of min told me something today that just blew me away.

Supposedly there are companies that are not replacing dead Athlon XPs if there are any signs that Arctic Silver was used as the thermal compound.

I told him straight up that I didn't believe it and I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this.

Thanks,
Jason.

I doubt a company would do this with an Athlon XP. Companies highly encourage thermal paste + good HSF for their processors and *SHOULD* replace it even if AS was used. However if you apply AS to a video card from ATi or nVidia, they probably won't return the card because you "modded" the card.

exactly on a videocard you hav to take off the heatsink and as soon as you do that you have just voided the warranty

however on cpu's, theres no possible way of voiding the waranty unless you physically alter the chip (conecting bridges), other than that they would have no idea what thermal compound you used (and i dont think taking off the heatsink on a cpu counts as modding it, since well it doesnt come preattached lol)

Thanks everyone.

That is all exactly what I thought as well. I just wanted to toss it out there and see what the popular opinion was.

If there are any further comments that anyone wants to make keep them coming...
