Wierd thing about ATI drivers

Well, all this talk about possible problems with the Cat 3.8s made me take a look at my drivers. I am under the impression that 3.8 is installed on my system, since I installed them and it appeared that everything went smoothly. However, after looking at my device properties, I notice something very strange.

The driver date is 9/12/2003. Catalyst 3.7 came out on 9/04/03. This made me think that I had 3.7 drivers. Maybe the 8 days difference is the time it took for Microsoft to certify the drivers.

Then, I took a look at my driver version number. It is 6.14.10.6387, which matches ATI's website as the version for the 3.8 driver.

3.8 was released on 10/08/2003. Why in the heck would Windows report the driver as being dated 9/12??

I am at a loss to explain this. Anyone have any ideas?

Because the driver itself is made up of components, the individual driver (ati2dvag.dll) is version 6.14.10.6387 dated 9/12/2003 and released as a package with the other drivers that compose the entire Catalyst Package on a later date (10/08/2003)

Wow, ok. So what you are saying is that they completed the 3.8 driver 8 days after they released 3.7
I am surprised that the release of drivers is so late after they are finished.

He is saying they didn't change that particular component of the driver set after that date.
Other components may have been finalized at a later date.

Oh, and it's nice to leave some time to test the entire component set before releasing it.
Do you really want a driver that is released a day after they make changes?

That was one component. Also, they changed a lot so they had to test them for awhile to iron out any bugs they found.
