Wierd results in coretemp

I just bought this Dell XPS 17 and I really like it. I have an Intel Core i7 2720QM Sandy Bridge proc. Just for S&Gs, I downloaded coretemp to see how hot it operates... and the results are really odd.

Running prime95, at 100% load, my temps are around 80 on all 4 cores.

Under no load whatsoever, each core runs around 50 degrees, but randomly, one core will spike to 100 degrees for a split second, then drop back down. This will happen on every core.

My tj max is sett to 100.

Is this a problem? It doesn't even physically possible to flux in temp that much for that short of time. Could it be a problem with the sensors, or do I need to contact Dell?

Awesome... thanks for the info. I couldn't find an older version, no matter how hard i tried, so i just grabbed real temp instead (even though I prefer the look of core temp).

Stress testing and never go over 84 degrees... no more fear of having to send my laptop back. 🙂

Thanks!
