I've got a 200GB IDE HD which I transfer between two computers via a mobile rack. Just recently, the files written by one computer can not be read by the other computer.
It's not that their is no file, its reading the wrong file. The text descriptor we see in Win Explorer is pointing to the wrong file. It's as if each computer has placed its own File Lookup Table on the HD and it doesn't see the other computer's table.
How can this happen? How can I resync these two File Tables? Is their a root cause of this?
I've had other problems with this computer, such as frequent crashed OS's, inability to burn a CD/DVD from a SATA HD, only likes IDE HD's, dead HDD's, second computer seeing all HD's as corrupted and wants to spend hours checking the file system.
I'm not looking for wild a$$ guesses, rather someone who has more root knowledge than I to sort this out.
Thanks
Hermit
