I have always liked the Alienware cases, not the latest ones but the ones from like last year. There are a few on ebay and i was thinking of picking one up for my system. Has anyone worked with them? are the heavy? difficult to work with? high or low quality?

I really love the design of these things for whatever reason and i really want one if it isnt going to just be a headache for me. Ideas anyone?

I have used an alienware system (technical support for someone) and I did not like the case. It felt flimsy and cheap. Especially the door on the front.

The Alienware case is just a variant on the Antec/Chieftec/Chenming/etc. case. The plastic bezels on these are pretty flimsy so you need to be careful not to break the hinges. But the metal has always been 1.0 mm SECC or better, so that should still be good and sturdy (and yes, a bit weighty).
. More modern cases have far surpassed those in terms of cooling and noise but there's no accounting for taste...

The case I'm referring to is the new Alien head one. The door is plastec and will break without any force whatsoever.

I believe the old chieftec ripoff cases had this problem too. Nobody used aluminum on the door. They used Plastec.

Non sequitur? Nothing I wrote above refers to the P180...

I thought that everyone knows what's meant by Antec/Chieftec/Chenming/etc. - it's the old "dragon" style case like the Antec 1040, 1080, etc. I can link a pic if you're still in the dark, cmdr.

ok well i dont really open my door on my current case more then ocne every maybe 3 or 4 days.. it would be even less if i didnt have to open the door to turn it on.. All my games on on ISOs that i run with deamon tools. Im too lazy to switch in the CDs lol. I just absolutely love the look of the case but i was worried that there was some major defect or something with them. I dunno. I think im going to go ahead and get one next paycheck guys. Ill post the pics of my system here when i get her all built.

Never worked with one, but I've seen plenty of pics, and they look great to me! However, as I think you know, you cannot buy these cases anywhere except on eBay, or whatever. So, I suppose it's a crap shoot in that respect... Never could figure out why Alienware doesn't sell these things...

you said and I quote! "More modern cases have far surpassed those in terms of cooling and noise but there's no accounting for taste..."

This was WITHOUT specifying whether you were comparing new case designs to the old dragon design, and yes I find the dragon case to be utter and absolute crap.

They would probably make a boat load. but then again less people would buy the system. Alot of people buy from them just for the bragging rights. I dunno why anyone would want to brag about spending 2G more then needed but thats their choice lol
