Wierd problem with SB Live! Value card.

I just put this new card in and everything seemed dandy until I raided the sound level to about %85. My speekers made an extremely loud, feedback sound. It was almost like those sirens during a tornado watch. By the way, I raised the volume up to %85 while nothing was playing. Does this sound like a problem with the card or something with the speakers? I have a brand new set of Altec Lansing ACS45.2 speakers. I would greatly appreaciate any input.

I'm sorry. I'm just mad about this problem with both new card and speakers. I got a suggestion that there might be a few audiophiles in here that would be able to help out.

make sure that if you have a microphone attached to your computer, it's muted. there might be some feedback with some background noise.
