Here's the scoop. I have been upgrading a computer for a friend so it would do for a nice secondary internet box ok? Here's the specs of thew original configuration and the new:
EPoX MVP3C2
IBM 6x68MX PR166
96MB RAM
Maxtor 10GB HD
No Modem
Trident TVGA9000B
It's gotta be an AT Case 'cause the mobo's AT, but it's got an ATX Power SUpply though
Win 95 B
The New Configuration:
Same Mobo
K6-2 500 CPU
Same RAM
Same HD
HSP PCI 56k Fax Modem (Model #A56FW-PCI)
Trident TGUI9680-1
Same Case
Win 98
Ok here's what's going on. She is having trouble connecting to the internet. Sometimes, it says no dial tone, and sometimes it says it's the wrong number. Now, here's what happened. Somebody there went in and checked the connections of the PCI Cards, etc and then it started working again, but when they shut the case back up, it stopped working again. Isn't that wierd?
Here's what they think. They think that somehow the signal going from the phone line to the modem is bad(they've tried different phone cords), like when the case is closed up that something's shorting out. Now, I dunno because I haven't been there, but what is inclining mew to think that this is the issue is that it sounds like that allmost it's not dialing the entire number when it even does dial, because when it does connect (with the case cover on) the operator returns says that the numbered dialed is invalid. Now they've tried connecting at the other computer in the house (Both using the same phone line, just different Wall Jacks) and it runs flawlessly. Could the case just be bad? I'm gonna get over there and make sure that the Modem card is properly seated in the PCI slot, it probably is allready but I'll make sure. Any suggestions as for why this would be happening? Could it be a bad case? I know I don't have all the info, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! God Bless!
