wierd problem with laptop/kvm/mouse

i have:
ibm thinkpad t40 with docking station
gateway laptop
dell desktop
ibm mo27fo usb optical mouse w/ ps2 to usb adapter (micro innovations)
zonet kvm3004

originally, everything was working fine as it should except for the fact that i could not boot the thinkpad if it is active on the kvm. at some point, the mouse stopped working on the thinkpad altogether. it wouldn't boot unless i unplugged the mouse. it would boot fine, but when i switched to another computer and back, the mouse did not respond. it was still working on the other systems. it started working again, but then failed again after a couple weeks. then the desktop stopped working on the kvm. i checked every port with the gateway and all still work fine. i removed the desktop so now all i have is the 2 laptops. the thinkpad will work with the mouse on initial boot, but after switching away and back, i have to unplug the mouse from the kvm and replug it every time i switch away and back. i have tried all ports, tried w & w/o the docking station, but it still persists. the gateway is always fine. what could i be missing?
