Wierd Problem playing a AVI file in Windows Media Player

Ok I am using the Windows Media player that gets installed with Windows XP to view a Transformers AVI file. When I open it up it requests a codec from a server and then says it can not be found. the Video then plays but with sound only.

Is there anyway to fix this? If so what do I need to download?

did some searching on the forum and thought that this might be DIVX, so I downloaded the kscodecsv433.zip file that someone had posted a link to.

it works now.

my question is this the best codec to use? if not what is?
I also need to install this on a Windows 2000 machine, so what version do I need for 2000?
