i am trying to fix a friends amd k62-500 64 mb of ram and a mobo that has everything built in usin the sis 530 chipset. here is the problem. she was using the computer just fine then one day it quit booting up. it would count the ram then itwould give her an error. i took and i tried starting it up with a win98 startup disk and it gets the point where it asks about starting with cdrom support. then it looks like it starts loading drivers, it says something about pci bus scan then just freezes. i put in a win2000 cdrom to try and start it from there and still it freezes. could it be the hard drive or mobo..i did replace the cmos battery thinking that was the problem. sorry for the long post but i am getting frustrated. btw she has a 10gig wd harddrive.thankyou in advance....

I feel for you man, tech support for a friend's PC is always a nightmare.

First thing I'd do is go into the BIOS and set it to the "fail-safe" default values.

Second thing I'd do is to unplug the cables and power from the hard drives, cd-roms, dvd's, floppy drives, etc.

Third thing is I'd pull every card out but the video card.

Now, see if it will Post correctly. If it does not, replace the RAM. If it does Post, start adding devices and cards back one at a time until it finally does not post. Then you will know what is causing the problem.

I'm leaning towards RAM as your problem, but I'd recommend you try the above steps just to be sure.

i would pull each card at a time however the stupid mobo has everything intergrated on. i guess i can try pulling one of my sdram to see that is the problem.

I should get another login as grammarman or something. I can't resist to point out that you misspelt weird! In the Subject!
Sorry I don't have an answer to your K6-2 Problem.
