I was using HD Tune 2.51 to bench my drives and for some odd reason, my RAID 0 would seem to skip every now and then dropping its throughput significantly.

This is only apparent on the RAID setup as my other drive is perfectly fine.

The RAID 0 is hooked up into a Promise PDC20378 on a Soltek SL-865PRO2-FGR mobo.

My possible guesses as to why its hiccuping is that both drives are hooked into a single connector (Master and Slave in a RAID 0) as I have no other option of doing PATA RAID. (The mobo has 3 IDE Connectors - 2 are hooked into the ICH5 while the other is hooked into the Promise raid chip which is what i need to do RAID).

Here were my results by HD Tune to better clarify the situation.

HD Tune: Promise 2+0 Stripe/RAID0 Benchmark

Transfer Rate Minimum : 27.7 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 70.6 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 53.4 MB/sec
Access Time : 13.8 ms
Burst Rate : 83.2 MB/sec
CPU Usage : 4.9%

and my single Hitachi 200 GB on my Primary IDE connector through the ICH 5.

HD Tune: HDS722525VLAT80 Benchmark

Transfer Rate Minimum : 31.9 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 58.2 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 48.2 MB/sec
Access Time : 12.0 ms
Burst Rate : 81.6 MB/sec
CPU Usage : 11.6%
