wierd noise need advice

To start out here is my system:
PSU: Thermaltake 500 W
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6550
MOBO: Asus P5N32-E SLI PLUS
MEM: 2 gb Patriot DDR2
GPU: XFX 6800 XT
CD/DVD: IDE burner combo
HDD: 120 gb SATA

So my PSU is making this very high pitched whining noise. It concerns me a lot. I replaced the PSU and the mobo. The PSU is still making this annoying noise. I know the noise is definately the PSU, and it is not the PSU fan. It is the actual PSU. I should think that 500 watts is enough power for the system I have right? Although I am quite sure the noise started around when I upgraded to the Asus mobo. Also, with my older biostart Tforce mobo, the PSU makes no noise. So is the PSU just horribly inefficient, does the Nvidia chipset suck power, or is it something else???
Also, I am thinking about buying an 8800 GTS. Do I need a higher wattage PSU. If so what is a good brand?

thanks for help

500W should be more than enough for a GTS, assuming the PSU is decent. I find it implausible that two straight Tt PSUs would have bad capacitors, so I don't know about ditching the PSU.

I think this is the third thread you've posted about this particular problem -- someone else suggested that it could be the motherboard, or the specific combination of this PSU and that mobo. Have you explored that possibility?

oh yea I guess it is. I didn't think that my first post to the PSU section was successful. I looked before I made this post and could not find it. If I knew how to close the other two I would. The one under general hardware was not specific enough I felt. I also agree it cannot be a bad PSU. Thermaltake has pretty good product quality.
I suppose it could be just the PSU and mobo combination. Do you think the noise is bad? I.e. will the PSU blow up in my face or are components being damaged? Ultimately I want to know if I should purchase a new PSU along with the 8800 GTS.

Assuming there's no defect with the Tt PSU you currently have, it would be just fine even if you upgraded to the 8800 GTS. More than enough wattage.

You might want to ask around in the Motherboard forum to see if anyone has experience with that ASUS board, and if chipset noise is a known issue with it. I read one of your other posts, and it seemed like you didn't have any noise issues when you were using this PSU with a Biostar board.
