Wierd Internet problem

Recently I have been surfing Monster.com, Flipdog.com and a few others and up until a few days ago everything was normal. Now I can't access Monster.com or Flipdog.com, but I can get to every other web page and link I've tried. I also tried everything I can think of to be able to access the page. I cleared my cache and history in IE. Didn't work.. I updated the firmware and reset my router.. Didn't work.. But if I use a anonymous proxy to access the sites they come right up. Also, if I take the cable modem from the router and plug it right into my system, the sites come right up. That tells me that it may have something to do with the router... but what? I haven't changed any of the settings on the router or IE up until a few days after I started having this problem. Also, why would every other site I try pull up except for these two when the router is connected?
I would appreciate any help.

I was going to say it sounds like a DNS problem until you mentioned it works if you don't go through your router. Actually, maybe that's still the problem. I'm not lucky enough to have broadband yet (at home) so I can't say for sure, but perhaps whatever DNS servers you have your router configured to use are having issues?

I would go into your router config (usually opened up in your browser at some IP like 192.168.1.1) and try plugging in an alternate set of DNS servers...if this is how routers handle things. Since I've never had my very own, but helped set them up, I forget if that kind of setting is router based (but I imagine it would be).

The thing to check is, while you CAN access the sites, go to a dos prompt (cmd in win2k) and ping the domain... write down the IP it pings, and then try typing that into a browser while you're plugged in through your router. If it still doesn't work, then that's probably the issue.

Are you are set up to get your IP address automatically (dynamic) or do you enter it manually (static). When using a dynamic IP though your router's DHCP you will be using your routers DNS. When you connect directly to your cable box you are using your ISP's DNS servers directly. Not sure why your router would drop sites but it does sound like a DNS problem. You could try turning everything off and power them up one at a time. Cable modem first, router next and then the PC's. If push comes to shove you could try using static IP's for the PC's. I have two PC's on cable through a 3-com router. I use static IP addresses for both. I use my routers IP address 192.168.2.1 for my gateway IP address. I get the DNS servers IP addresses from the status page of my router and enter them manually. I also add my router's IP to the DNS server list as a backup in case MY ISP changes the DNS server IP's.
