Wierd findings on 1.1GHz T-Birds

I had a few 1.1GHz Tbirds, which I unlocked today. I could run the multiplier up to 12, and they would post at 1200MHz. As soon as I bumped it to 12.5 x, they post as 1300, at 100MHz fsb.
I have never had a T-Bird default to the next .5 except these. Has anyone else seen this?

Board is a MSI K7T Pro2A.
Everything else I have tried on it, from Duron 600 up to T-Bird 1GHz has multiplied properly, even at 12.5 on some of the 1GHz Birds.

Just strange.
I did nothing different, just unlocked them with the loctite defogger repair kit. :Q

compuwiz1:

I believe their is an issue with the multiplier not working correctly on the Pro2A's...I don't know the details, but it seems fairly prevalent. I think it affects the 1ghz+ CPU's more than others...

It's not a bad thing really, considering that the chips just happen to be happy running at 1300. :)
I checked it with WCPUID and they report as 1300 too.

Its a conductive paint used to repair rear defogger grids on cars.
Works great for connecting the L1 Bridges on Durons and Tbirds.

Going out on a limb here... but could he 12.5X multiplier have been remapped to a 13X multiplier over recent weeks to allow the production of the (rumoured) 1.3GHz TBird. This would make a lot of sense if the 1.3GHz rumour was true. :)

You could be onto something there.
Late week 1.1's could also be 1300 tollerant....infact the same core. Whohoo! :)

AFAIK, there is no way to get a 13X multiplier. The multiplier scheme ends at 12.5X. Pretty sure that the 1.3gig chips will be 133FSB not 100. MSI PRO 2A's have had problems but when they occur the system normally won't boot. Interesting observations Compuwiz1.

The 12.5X limit is artificial. It could be simply reconfigured to run from 8x-16.5x instead of the old 3x-12.5x setup. AMD makes the rules as far as that goes. :)

Ratman, I said that the 'scheme' ends at 12.5X. If you own the scheme, then, off course you can change it. The point is, that AMD has not published any change to the scheme, which is kinda surprising as the MSI Mobo replaced 12.5 with 1300. My guess is that AMD has abandoned 12.5X.

That 1.3Ghz thing could be true, since I havn't heard anything about it being 133MHz..and it couldnt be could it? If it is the same core, as compuwiz said, we know how the KT133 chip doesnt handle speeds beyond 100MHz very well...I might be wrong and probably am, if so, correct me! :)

cpars, that's damn nice! :)

Well, it's not my loctite application, as 4 of them have done this now.

Or for some wierd reason a litle overspilled loctite joined some certain L1 bridges in a combination that caused the 13x? But I doupt this.

What week is the Chip? I will give it a try with my Pro2A and 1.1 this weekend.

My 1.1G and abit KT7A will only run at integer multipliers. If I choose 10.5 x in bios it will boot at 10 x, 9.5 x boot at 9 x... Maybe it is because I am using pencil trick to unlock.

My 1.2 came unlocked from the factory. I also have an MSI Pro2A, and mine jumps to 1300 when changing the multipier to 12.5.

I have done 250+ chips, so I would know if it was a "spilled" loctite problem. ;)
